Depolarize Newsletter: Tech can connect. Tech can divide. Let's try to get this right, shall we?

Tech can connect.
Tech can divide.
Let's try to get this right, shall we?

But first, some news: Civic Health Project has a whole new vibe in 2025!For seven years, we've proudly funded and promoted the work of America's bridge builders ... the academics, practitioners, and creatives seeking scalable solutions to our dangerous divisions. Today, a powerful field of 500+ grassroots organizations is advancing bridging norms, skills, and opportunities in local communities and civic institutions across the country. In 2025 and beyond, Civic Health Project is doubling down on "social cohesion technology."

We've long believed and invested in the idea that technology is a critical vector for scaling bridging and civic norms. Through projects like Mismatch and Frankly (formerly Kazm), we've helped build and deploy platforms that support virtual dialogue and deliberation across distance and divides. As a founding member of the Council on Technology and Social Cohesion, and a sponsor of the Council's pivotal inaugural convening in 2023, we've taken our efforts global.Today, we're proud to launch our brand new website, describing an innovative and rapidly growing portfolio of in-house and supported social cohesion technology projects.  Our new logo (see above: distinctive layers resolving into a unifying point) reflects the inherently borderless nature of our investments in measurement, entertainment, and technology ... work that knows no geographic boundaries and can help shape prosocial outcomes globally. And our new role as a co-chair of the Council on Technology and Social Cohesion provides a fantastic perch to connect scalable technology, smart interventions, and public audiences seeking ways to connect (not divide) in digital spaces. Normsy.ai and Civic Health Project Spotlighted at LLMs and Public Discourse Convening

In February 2025, more than 70 technologists, practitioners, and academics gathered at the invitation of the Plurality Institute, in partnership with the Council on Technology and Social Cohesion, to explore the role of AI Large Language Models (LLMs) in fostering healthy public discourse. Hosted in Berkeley, CA at the Society Library's inspiring HQ, on a former school campus, the LLMs and Public Discourse event featured a lightning roundtable of eight innovative projects, including Civic Health Project's Normsy.ai (formerly named Social Media Detoxifier, as shown in the video).
